A large number of foreigners have come to live in Aomori Prefecture. With this arrival comes new types of culture and sets of values, a“society for the coexistence of different cultures”is being formed. As of December 2005, the number of registered foreigners living in Aomori was 5,226. In the past few years this number has rapidly increased. Recognizing that foreign residents constitute one part of Aomori Prefecture's regional society, we would like to work to establish a society in which different cultures can coexist while respecting differences in nationality, culture, custom, gender and age. We believe that in reality, there are a many people who are confused by differences in language, lifestyle, and societal structure; people who feel they are experiencing a lack of freedom, are inconvenienced, or regularly troubled in their daily life.
Therefore, the Aomori Prefecture International Exchange Association opened a“Consultation Desk for Foreign Residents”in an effort to help solve the issues and problems that are confronted by foreign residents.
